We are hiring a Software Developer at the Euro-BioImaging Statutory Seat

We are inviting expressions of interest for the position of Software Developer at Euro-BioImaging ERIC (https://www.eurobioimaging.eu), a pan-European research infrastructure organization that offers open access to world-leading imaging technologies, training and data services in biological and biomedical imaging. The recruited Software Developer will be part of the Euro-BioImaging headquarters in Finland, specifically the Euro-BioImaging Web Portal team, that develops software through which Euro-BioImaging services are accessed. The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to apply your knowledge in software development in an area of societal significance and a broad scope. Bioimaging is the most used research methodology in life sciences, critically needed in nearly all research. Euro-BioImaging services are therefore elemental in for instance cancer research, virus research, and drug development.
The mission of Euro-BioImaging ERIC as a distributed research infrastructure is to provide the European research community, collaborative partners and industry with world class imaging services that bridge biological and biomedical imaging, and enable innovative and world-class research. Whatever the scale of imaging, Euro-BioImaging provides the tools and support to explore and answer research questions. To achieve this, Euro-BioImaging ERIC has its own Web Portal, through which the entire access process from proposal submission to review and post-access feedback is handled. The Web Portal also includes other related functionality, such as communication tools and content management. Also user authentication and authorization infrastructure are important for its operation. The main task of the Software Developer is to work as a backend developer for various aspects of the Euro-BioImaging Web Portal and its access functionality.
The Software Developer is hired at the Statutory Seat of Euro-BioImaging ERIC and based in Turku, Finland. It is possible to conduct part of the work distantly. The Statutory Seat is the office of the Director General and responsible for the overall coordination and administration of Euro-BioImaging ERIC.
Euro-BioImaging is managed by a tripartite Hub, or “Headquarters team”, located in Finland, Germany, and Italy, including the Statutory Seat in Turku, and the sections for biological (Bio-Hub, EMBL Heidelberg) and biomedical imaging (Med-Hub, CNR, Turin). You will have a chance to work with the whole highly multidisciplinary and multicultural team at all three locations.
Main responsibilities
The Software Developer will be a key contributor in particular to the following tasks:
- Designing and implementing new features
- Testing, updating, monitoring, bug-fixing, and improving existing features
- Application deployment and configuration management
You have:
- Three or more years of experience in backend development - designing and managing development of web services
- Experience in designing and maintaining SQL database schemas
- Experience in web development using JavaScript, PHP, with knowledge of object-oriented programming
- Experience with CI/CD and Linux server management
- Ability to take initiative and responsibility, and work well in a team
- Good communication skills in English

The Organization
Euro-BioImaging ERIC is a joint effort of 17 members, and one observer country. Euro-BioImaging ERIC is managed by the tripartite Hub, and the services are provided by 35 Nodes (comprising 173 renowned imaging facilities), that are distributed across Europe. The Nodes provide access to over 90 different cutting-edge biological and biomedical imaging technologies, including image data analysis. In addition, Euro-BioImaging provides access to training and image data services, involving also the European Open Science Cloud. All services can be accessed by all scientists, from anywhere in the world and from both academia and industry. The heart of Euro-BioImaging and the access point to the services is the Euro-BioImaging Web Portal (www.eubi.smartbutlers.com), which is the main focus area of the Software Developer to be hired.
Application conditions, process and tentative timeline
The appointment will be to a full-time fixed term contract academic position with a trial period of six months. The appointment is a fixed-term position with possibility for renewal.
The salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate.
